It is with great pride and joy that we wish to congratulate FAR board member Oscar S. Tatosian on his appointment as Honorary Consul of The Republic of Armenia in Chicago.

Oscar took on his new position March 22, when Chicago-area Armenians, members of the city’s consular corps and countless associates, celebrated the establishment of the city’s first Honorary Consulate of The Republic of Armenia, serving Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

About 500 guests gathered at the Union League Club of Chicago for the official proclamation. The evening’s program included the invocation and remarks by His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate, Diocese of the Armenian Church in America; the Honorary Grigor Hovhannissian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States; and a formal welcome by Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago.

Also in attendance were Berj Apkarian and Adroushan Armenian, respective Honorary Consuls from the U.S. Armenian consular offices in Fresno, CA and Las Vegas.

In this position, the Honorary Consul will focus on matters of interest to the Republic of Armenia, primarily on trade in the areas of technology, agriculture and wine, tourism, as well as education.

Congratulations on this momentous appointment and best wishes for this important role, Oscar!
