[CSFC] : Short-term Sanctuary and Assistance Program standard

This week, children benefiting from FAR’s Short-term Sanctuary and Assistance Program at the Children’s Support Center visited Haghtanak Park and Zeytun Park, as well as attending a theatrical performance. Regular programs like this are a well deserved change from the hard reality that many of the children, now in the care the FAR Children Center, faced in their past. FAR’s Children’s Support Center hotline continues to receive calls from Armenian families in search of assistance with everything from basic needs such as a shelter, to more specific needs such as caring for children with special issues. [FAR Health Programs | CME]: New Joint Program: FAR and Traumatology Republican Scientific Center. standard

A new program to explore and cure the skeletal system distraction/ disorder in children will be initially implemented in the Shirak Region of Armenia. The first assignment visit to Gyumri was made on May 7th, 2009. Within the framework of the visit, the working team (TRSC Scientific Director T. Khanamiryan, TRSC employee G. Ayvazyan, FAR Health Programs Coordinator H. Simonyan) held meetings with local responsible officials of the region’s health care system. All parties welcomed the joint-venture with great enthusiasm. As a result, the program implementation schedule (June 11 – one-day seminar, June 20-29 – one week practical training) in the Gyumri Maternity Hospital were planned. [FAR Social Services | FAR Soup Kitchens]: BAFA and FAR Organize Workshops in Nor Hatchn. standard

One of FAR Soup Kitchens is located in village Nor Hatchn, close to Yerevan. Many of the industrial factories that operated here have been closed for years. The majority of young people left for Russia in search of work and the elderly remaining in the village live on a very small pension. Refugees from Azerbaijan live in dormitories under extremely poor conditions. Among beneficiaries of this soup kitchen Nor Hatchn are three generations of refugee families and many pensioners of the village. BAFA (Bay Area Friends of Armenia) and FAR have initiated the organization of an entertainment program for children visiting the soup kitchen. The “Manana” organization will conduct workshops and teach photography, journalism, and film shooting for the youngsters. ...

[CASP] : Scholarship Distribution in Shirak Region standard

The FAR office in Shirak allocated CASP sponsorships to 31 beneficiaries in the Shirak region (100 USD to each beneficiary). One of the CASP beneficiaries, the Snkhchyan family, lost their house as a result of the 1988 earthquake. Since then they have been living in a wooden cottage located in the suburbs of Gyumri. Two years ago, Anahit Snkhchyan also lost her husband, a well-known specialist of mathematics. Now she hardly manages to keep her four children. Anahit is unemployed and her father-in-law has to support the family. Fortunately, her son Hovhannes could be enrolled in the CASP child sponsorship program – managed by FAR – and her eldest daughter is a FAR Mathevosian Scholarship program beneficiary. “I would face ...
