[BCPP/CASP]: Combating Child Malnutrition at Best image

One of the most important objectives of our Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP) is to ensure a better future for Armenia’s children, and BCPP’s malnutrition reduction component is one of the mechanisms FAR uses to reach this goal. It ensures all children at 15 of the kindergartens in Tavush Province receive free and nutritious meals, which contain the essential amount of daily vitamins and minerals.

[CASP]: Stipends Making a Difference in the Lives of Vulnerable Children image

Since its inception in 2000, FAR’s Children of Armenia Sponsorship Program (CASP)* has made a tremendous impact on the lives of orphans and children of children single-mothers. It thus promotes the eradication of child poverty in a number of regions in Armenia and Javakhk, Georgia. CASP sponsorship allows children to have access to life-changing benefits until they turn 18, like school supplies and other forms of educational support, everyday essentials like food, clothes, and extracurricular activities, and medical care.

15-year-old twins Nare and Meline are members of a Chinari hobby group operated by FAR’s “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program” (BCPP)* in the Tavush region. The twins, along with other members of the Chinari and Aygepar hobby groups, recently displayed their handmade works at exhibitions held in their village. The BCPP hobby groups provide much-needed extracurricular activities in the border region and introduce children to a variety of sports and art forms otherwise unavailable to them.

A low income and no sustainable job had long become a source of anxiety for the couple, especially with their eldest child Julieta, 18, who has vision problems, for which she receives a meager $33 illness benefit from the state – not enough to cover the cost of her medications or doctor visits. [Child Poverty Reduction]: Seminar Furthers Medical Knowledge of Rural Healthcare Providers image

The continuous training of local healthcare staff is one of the important parts of FAR healthcare initiatives, as we always seek ways to strengthen local capacity. As part of the healthcare component of FAR’s Child Poverty Reduction Program, FAR recently organized a seminar for 50 local pediatricians and rural family physicians. This was the first healthcare seminar initiated through the program since it started in YEAR? and topics, which were chosen based on previous discussion and identification of knowledge gaps with local healthcare providers, focused on neonatal conditions, diagnosis of lymph nodes, and children’s headaches.

[FAR Health Programs]: Child Poverty Reduction Program Betters Quality of Life for Two Young Men image

Fifteen-year-old Hamlet Kumrikyan is a quiet yet happy young boy, but he has struggled with physical disabilities since childhood. When he would walk he would limp, sparking ridicule from the others at school. He would fall when he tried to run with his schoolmates due to his foot problem as he tried desperately to keep up. The bones in his foot are malformed and while he had dealt with the issue since birth, it never got any easier for him. And his mother could never afford a medical exam, thus the possibility of corrective surgery was always out of the question. A single mother, Lyudmila Kumrikyan, 57, has never been able to secure a job or steady income in the small village of Noramarg where the two live.
