At just 23 years of age, Tigran Tchughuryan became the youngest successful businessperson in Artsvaberd - his village located in the Tavush province of Armenia. Tigran was raised in a family of pedagogues with the belief that he would become a geography teacher, just like his two older brothers. However, his brothers one day popped the idea of entrepreneurship into his mind, and in 2010, Tigran applied to the Armenian State University of Economics, the Department of Microeconomics and Organization of Entrepreneurial Activities.

Fifteen young winners of an essay competition organized by FAR and the Armenian Astronomical Society recently visited the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO). The young competitors (grades eight to 12) had written on the topic of “My Universe” and their prize was a two-day journey that gave them a closer look into the world of physics.

[Science and Education]: Supporting Scientific Learning Opportunities for Youth image

FAR’s longtime cooperation with Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO) in Kotayq Province has always been a great one. Since we at FAR are always happy to support BAO, it was great to be able to co-fund the second annual Byurakan Science Camp, which was held last fall for 30 young, talented boys and girls, ages 12-15, from Armenia and the diaspora. The five-day camp was organized in cooperation with the Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS) and the Ministry of Education and Science at BAO. Young participants met with well-known astronomers, engaged in interactive lectures and discussions on astronomy, intellectual games, and they observed the stars at night.
