[BCPP]: Five More Schools Renovated in Tavush Province image

The children could hardly contain their excitement as their guests gathered in their kindergarten’s newly renovated kitchen. For more than 35 years, generations of children at the school had become comfortable with the kitchen’s musty walls and its damaged floor, windows, and doors. There had been no appropriate space to prepare daily meals, and no actual place where the children could sit and eat their food.

[BCPP]: BCPP Helps Small Business Owners to Expand image

A new sub project within our Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP), which aims to provide support to smaller business owners, has already helped two local businesses to expand. After opening a call for applications nearly one year ago, FAR program managers had the difficult task of choosing the ideas of two successful candidates out of the 10 applicants who presented their plans on how to enlarge their current businesses. Selection was followed by a training on how to prepare solid business plans, and each candidate was given an interest-free loan and a grant to carry it out.

Then, about two years ago, they were selected as beneficiaries for FAR’s Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP). Their comprehensive support package, which they worked on with assistance from social workers based at FAR’s Office in Tavush Province , helped them build a way out of the hole they were in toward a path of self-sufficiency. Solutions to their problems were designed ...

After graduating from Yerevan State Medical University, she and her husband moved from Yerevan to Tavush Province to live with his family. Today, she has more than 950 patients from Berd City and Verin Karmiraghbyur Village. “I love my job. I do it with passion,” said the 53-year-old. “I especially love my little patients. I know nearly everyone by their face. Working in the provinces is a bit challenging but one of the best things about it is that people are very honest here. Living ...

[BCPP]: Youth in Action image

One of the most important objectives of FAR’s Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP) is to encourage positive life changes for young people. The lack of entertainment and everyday activities along with socio-economic hardship in the impoverished Tavush Province drives more and more young people each year away from their home villages to Yerevan and abroad in search of greater opportunity. As part of the program’s initiatives to engage young people in their communities, FAR’s staff organize a variety of activities for children and teenagers, who they brought together many times throughout 2015. The last two meetings held in December centered around a poetry and “KVN” drama competition. Thirty-five teenagers participated in the poem reading competition, which was organized ...
