[BCPP]: Course Encourages Young People’s Creativity and Self-Sufficiency Through Woodworking image

“Pomegranates, khachkars, statues, different bowls and jugs—each class we try to craft something new, something innovative. I try to be encouraging and tell my students the old saying that a man who knows how to work with his hands will never go hungry,’” said Sargis Ghevondyan, 24, who has been teaching woodworking in the rural border village of Chinchin for the last four years. The extracurricular course is made possible by FAR’s Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program.

[BCPP]: Five More Schools Renovated in Tavush Province image

The children could hardly contain their excitement as their guests gathered in their kindergarten’s newly renovated kitchen. For more than 35 years, generations of children at the school had become comfortable with the kitchen’s musty walls and its damaged floor, windows, and doors. There had been no appropriate space to prepare daily meals, and no actual place where the children could sit and eat their food.

[BCPP]: BCPP Helps Small Business Owners to Expand image

A new sub project within our Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP), which aims to provide support to smaller business owners, has already helped two local businesses to expand. After opening a call for applications nearly one year ago, FAR program managers had the difficult task of choosing the ideas of two successful candidates out of the 10 applicants who presented their plans on how to enlarge their current businesses. Selection was followed by a training on how to prepare solid business plans, and each candidate was given an interest-free loan and a grant to carry it out.

[Child Protection]: Celebrating International Children’s Day image

We are happy to share with you some of our photos from International Children’s Day, which FAR staff happily celebrated with children in Berd City and the surrounding villages of Tavush Province. Staff from FAR’s Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP) helped to organize the traditional and long awaited chalk art contest entitled "My Beautiful Homeland," in which 50 children took part and received certificates of participation.

[BCPP]: The Path to Self-Sustainability image

Two years of consistent work has helped the Melikyan family to have a better life. The family of five from Berd City used to live in a two-room house where they all slept in one room on old, broken beds. Without a bathroom, the family would have to take baths in a plastic tub in the cellar. Then, about two years ago, they were selected as beneficiaries for FAR’s Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP). Their comprehensive support package, which they worked on with assistance from social workers based at FAR’s Office in Tavush Province , helped them build a way out of the hole they were in toward a path of self-sufficiency.
