[FAR Health Programs; BCPP]: Study on Children’s Development to Inform BCPP’s Next Project image

FAR’s health team recently wrapped up a year-long study on the cognitive and mental development of toddlers. The study, which focused on 700 children between nine and 36 months in the Berd Region of Tavush Province, showed that a significant portion—28 percent—struggle with issues related to communication, problem solving, socialization, and both gross and fine motor skills.

Pediatrician Dr. Susanna Ayvazyan is already the healthcare provider for her second-generation of patients—the children for whose mothers and fathers she began seeing 25 years ago when she first started working at Berd Medical Center. After graduating from Yerevan State Medical University, she and her husband moved from Yerevan to Tavush Province to live with his family. [FAR Healthcare]: Another Step Toward Tackling Childhood Malnutrition standard

FAR’s healthcare team successfully concluded the second part of the very first seminar of the Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program. The five-day seminar was specifically aimed at improving childhood malnutrition in Berd Marz. Drawn from a training curriculum developed by UNICEF Armenia, it focused on the latest guidelines for infant and child nutrition and growth. Part one of the seminar was held in October. Dr. Susanna Harutyunyan, associate professor of the Pediatric Department at Yerevan State Medical University, conducted the training and assisted FAR in providing relevant printed materials, including brochures, booklets and posters, which participants will distribute throughout the region.
