Svetlana Hayrumyan became a beneficiary of FAR’s Children of Armenia Sponsorship Program (CASP)* two years ago, which means that she will receive a stipend from her U.S. benefactors until she turns 18. The program aims to promote child poverty reduction in Armenia through the provision of financial support directed to the betterment of the socioeconomic situation of vulnerable families in Armenia and Javakhk (Georgia).

Since its inception in 2000, FAR’s Children of Armenia Sponsorship Program (CASP)* has made a tremendous impact on the lives of orphans and children of children single-mothers. It thus promotes the eradication of child poverty in a number of regions in Armenia and Javakhk, Georgia. CASP sponsorship allows children to have access to life-changing benefits until they turn 18, like school supplies and other forms of educational support, everyday essentials like food, clothes, and extracurricular activities, and medical care.

[CASP]: CASP Stipend Helps One Single Mother to Make Ends Meet image

Silva Babayan, 45, is a single mother with six children who lives in one of the outer districts of Goris, a small city in Syunik Province. Her eldest daughter, Hermine, 22, is married but the rest still live at home with Silva. Twenty-seven-year-old Artyem has trouble with his eyesight. Her younger daughters, Ashkhen, 16, Qristine, 15, and Lusine, 13, are her helpers, and the youngest son, Alik, 8, is the baby of the family.

[CASP]: More than 500 Children Receive Financial Aid from CASP Distributions image

Five hundred children living in Armenia's Syunik, Tavush and Shirak provinces, as well as in Javakhk, recently received financial aid as part of this year’s Children of Armenia Sponsorship Program (CASP) distributions. FAR staff recently traveled to these locations where they gave out the annual stipends with support from the Fathers of Armenia's Apostolic Church serving in these cities. In Javakhk, Georgia, support was distributed with the help of Father Babken Salbian, leader of Javakhk’s vicars.

[FAR Child Protection]: Support for the Victims of April’s War image

This spring, the conflict of Nagorno-Karabakh was brought back to the fore when on April 2nd fighting reignited, ultimately taking the lives of more than 100 soldiers and servicemen. One of our supporters and the founder of FAR’s Mathevosian Scholarship, Anoush Mathevosian kindly donated money to the families of two of the fallen soldiers, Vladimir Melqonyan, 19, and Qyaram Sloyan, 19. In early May, FAR Education and Science Programs Manager Edik Karapetyan visited the families of these young men to deliver the financial support.
