[FAR Yerevan]: Old Friend, New Achievements: Mr. Sayan’s Visit to Yerevan standard

September was a very eventful month for FAR. Along with opening three playgrounds and an indoor gymnasium in the Tavush region, as well as two soup kitchens in the Kotayk region of Armenia, we hosted an educator, artist, philanthropist, and honorary professor of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory Arsen Sayan for a entire week in Yerevan. Maestro Sayan was in Armenia to officially open the Argavand Music School that was renovated by FAR thanks to his generous donation. In a gesture of deep appreciation and respect, the Argavand, Ararat community has renamed the school after him. Maestro Sayan used the time before the official ceremony very productively. [FAR Scholarships]: Mathevosian Scholars Continue on Path to Success standard

We are proud to announce the latest successes of our Mathevosian Scholarship Program recipients.  Of the 72 scholars for 2012-2013, 54 have achieved good or excellent academic results. During a recent meeting of FAR’s Education Programs Coordinating Council, three of the undergraduate students were awarded grants of 80,000 AMD each, and all students with excellent results received certificates of achievement from FAR. This year’s Mathevosian scholars come from all regions of Armenia and they study at various institutions around the country, the majority of whom are at Yerevan State University. Twenty seven are at the State University of Economics; 12 at Armenian State Engineering University and two study at the State Agrarian University of Armenia. [FAR Scholarships]: Conversing through Music standard

It is often said that music is a universal language. In its purest form, it knows no boundaries and has no specific identities. It is these qualities that give music the power to create and cultivate imaginative channels of conflict resolution. FAR’s Sayan Scholarship recipient Artyom Naghdyan is a cellist, studying at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. In addition to his primary job with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, Artyom is involved in two string quartets. One of them is the Vartanyan quartet, which regularly plays concerts in Yerevan and is comprised of local classical musicians. The other is known as the Conflict Countries’ Quartet.
