Preparing physicians to serve in the rural regions of Armenia is one of the components of the FAR Mathevosian Scholarship Program. According to the contract signed between FAR, various regional administrations, Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) and YSMU medical residents, young physicians agree to work in regional hospitals upon completing their educations.

Surgeon Eduard Bairamyan has been working in Dilijan Hospital, located in the Tavush region, since 2010 and provides his practical support to people. He also works on the hospital’s ambulance and he teaches surgery at Dilijan State Medical College. For several months Davit Smoyan has also worked as a plastic surgeon at Gyumri’s Gyulbenkyan Surgical Hospital.

In the next few months three more participants from YSMU will join these young promising physicians at these hospitals. Marine Hoveyan, an ENT specialist, will go to work in Aragatsotn. Cardiologist Vachagan Vardanyan will work in the Syunik region, and OBGYN Natella Margaryan will leave for Gegharkuni marz.

We wish great success and the best of luck to these young professionals.
