Each year, the Armenian Church Youth Organization of America (ACYOA) hosts the Bishop’s 5K, a unique event that blends physical fitness with spiritual well-being.
In April 2024, over 150 participants of all ages took part in a series of community run/walk events held across the Eastern Diocese, including locations at St. John Armenian Church in Detroit, St. James Armenian Church in Watertown, and in Texas and Connecticut. For those unable to attend in person, the event also offered a virtual option, allowing participants to run from anywhere in the world.
This year, the ACYOA generously pledged to donate half of the proceeds to FAR’s Ayo! Program, supporting the “Put Down Roots” project. This initiative aims to introduce therapeutic horticulture to Armenia by creating a special space at the Yerevan Botanical Gardens designed for all kids, with a focus on those with special needs and who have experienced trauma. Through hands-on activities, this section of the gardens will foster cognitive development, improve physical health, promote emotional well-being, and enhance communication skills.
A heartfelt thank you to the ACYOA for its continued partnership with the Ayo! Program, for organizing the Bishop's 5K, and for generously donating $1,500 to support this important cause.
FAR’s collaboration with the Yerevan Botanical Gardens has flourished over the years, with the support of donors like Ara and Valerie Cherchian. Thanks to their generosity, the Eco Education Center was launched in 2023, equipping the gardens with modern tools such as microscopes and technology for scientific and environmental events, as well as summer science camps for schoolchildren from Yerevan and rural areas.
We are excited to see how these spaces will continue to grow and inspire future generations!
