When Harry and Suzanne Toufayan set foot on the campus of the State Art College of Dilijan they were greeted with a drumroll. After cutting the large red ribbon set up for them, they toured the facility, which was recently redone through their generous support.
A hub for musical education in Tavush Province, Dilijan College provides support to 15 other music schools in the region. Renovations have transformed the Soviet-era building into a revitalized learning center that now brings quality education to talented students in one of the country’s most impoverished regions.
Today about 250 students attend the school and have the opportunity to perform in a concert hall for 300 people.
“These changes have certainly encouraged more young people to study in a uniquely beautiful atmosphere that combines art with architecture and inspires local youth to be more creative. I can certainly say that rejuvenation serves the purpose and that’s what matters the most," said College Dean Hasmik Mkrtumyan.
FAR Country Program Director Bagrat Sargsyan expressed his gratitude to Harry and Suzanne Toufayan for their dedicated support to ensuring a better future for the young people of Armenia.
