We are proud to share with you that two FAR Family members, Dr. Aram Chobanian, a former member of the FAR Board of Directors, and Dr. Richard Babayan, a current FAR Board member, have been greatly recognized for their work in the field of medicine by Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Chobanian, a renowned cardiologist, is now one of the medical school's namesakes. Thanks to a $100 million gift from Edward Avedisian, a BU alumnus and former Boston Pops and Boston Ballet Orchestra clarinetist, which will support scholarships, faculty chairs, research, and teaching, the school has been renamed the Boston University Aram V. Chobanian & Edward Avedisian School of Medicine. Dr. Chobanian, who is President Emeritus of BU and Dean Emeritus of the School of Medicine, was Mr. Avedisian's childhood friend.
One of the endowment's professorships will also be created in the name of FAR Board Member Dr. Richard K. Babayan, Professor and Chair Emeritus of Urology at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Babayan replaced Dr. Chobanian on FAR's Board of Directors at Dr. Chobanian's request.
Both Dr. Chobanian and Dr. Babayan have significantly helped our organization in its mission to advance Armenia’s healthcare system. They follow in the footsteps of one of FAR’s founders the late Dr. Edgar Housepian, and the late Annette Choolfaian, both of whom made healthcare such an important focus of our organization.
We are overjoyed that these dear members of our FAR family have been so highly honored.
