Ida Kar (Ida Karamian) was one of the most important and influential photographers in the world over the course of the 20th century. Now, the National Portrait Gallery in London is showcasing her work, the first exhibition in 50 years, entitled “Ida Kar: Bohemian Photographer.”
A fully-illustrated hardback book showcasing 150 of Ida Kar’s remarkable portraits accompanies the exhibition, with essays by Karen Wright, writer and co-founder of Modern Painters magazine, and by the exhibition’s curator Clare Freestone, Associate Curator of Photographs, National Portrait Gallery.
The exhibition will take place from March 10 – June 19, 2011 at the Porter Gallery. It includes close to 100 photos, some of which have never been displayed before, as well as never before seen Ida Kar archives.
