The jazz enthusiasm at Dilijan State College of Arts was reignited by the renowned handpan (hang drum) artist, Daniel Waples. On November 4, Waples conducted a series of master classes for college students and teachers, introducing them to the subtle nuances of the hang drum. The session evolved into an impromptu concert, enriched by the distinctive collaboration with acclaimed double bassist Nikoghayos Vardanyan and pianist Karen Kocharyan. College students, along with international competition laureate Boris Asatryan and student Erik Matinyan, joined on drums, dhol, and cajón, adding vibrant layers to the performance.
"Playing alongside students and teachers in such a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Daniel found it hard to say goodbye," said Hasmik Mkrtumyan, the College Principal. "He left deeply impressed, and we promised to stay connected with his future concerts." She also noted that Waples was so moved by Boris Asatryan's skill that he invited him to perform together at the Dilijan Concert later that day.
