Ani Avalyan never wanted to permanently leave her home in Armenia’s Berd Region. “I used to get upset when our lecturer would ask the students who among us wanted to be back home. I would be among the only ones in the class to say, ‘yes, I do,'” she said.
However Ani had always wanted to attend college in Yerevan, something she was able to do thanks to a Mardigian Scholarship from FAR. Now a teacher in her home village of Artsvaberd after earning her degree in 2020, Ani teaches and works closely with children who have learning and language disabilities.
She is one of those featured in FAR’s 2020 Annual Report, which is available online. You can also read and watch Ani’s story here.
