In the wake of Azerbaijan’s 2023 attack, many churches across the Eastern Diocese came together to organize fundraisers to aid those forcibly displaced from their homes. One such effort was led by Fr. Vart and the congregation of Holy Archangels Church at Hye Pointe in Haverhill, MA, who raised nearly $12,000. Additionally, the Armenian Friends of America, a community group based in Massachusetts’ Merrimack Valley, contributed another $3,000.
In response, FAR decided to direct the funds toward supporting displaced families who have settled in Sisian, a town in Armenia’s southern Syunik region. Nestled close to the border, Syunik is not only a beautiful and historic area but also a strategic part of Armenia’s landscape.
Thanks to this generous outpouring of support, FAR was able to provide essential appliances to more than 30 displaced families (nearly 100 children among them) now residing in Sisian and surrounding villages. These families received much-needed appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, stoves, and vacuums, helping to make their new lives a bit more manageable.
Fr. Vart, Yn. Lusine, and their daughters personally visited the families, joining FAR’s team members to offer prayers and connect with the community. This heartfelt visit allowed them to speak with the families and offer emotional and spiritual support.
In addition to this, the FAR office in Sisian continues to provide vital assistance to the local community, including support for schoolchildren, tools for those hoping to start businesses, psychosocial services, and aid with home renovations and furnishings.
