Peter Balakian, author of The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America’s Response, to speak in lower Manhattan this Wednesday evening. Professor Peter Balakian will read at the 9/ll Memorial & Museum in New York City, located at 20 Vesey Street, on Wednesday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m. As the first speaker in the fall-winter speakers series, “9/11, Today and Tomorrow,” Peter Balakian will read from his new book of poems Ziggurat, just published by The University of Chicago Press. [FAR Schools]: New Computers Will Benefit Gavar #1 Special School. standard

Margaret Ajemian Ahnert, author of The Knock at the Door who traveled to Armenia in April, recently donated brand new computers to the Gavar #1 Special School. Ms. Ahnert visited the school as well as some other FAR projects after presenting the Armenian translation of her book at the Genocide museum in Yerevan. She was compelled to give after meeting with the 80 disabled children who attend the school, talking with them, and learning about their interests and hobbies. Until now, the school has only had two worn out machines to work from. All of us at FAR would like to express our gratitude for this generous donation. [Hayastani Kidak]: 2010 Young Professionals Trip – Registration is Closing Today! standard

The two-week 2010 Young Professionals Trip to Armenia will take place from July 7th to July 21st, 2010. During our time in Armenia, we will travel to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. Holy Etchmiadzin, the Noravank monastery, and the Genocide Memorial and Museum are on our itinerary. Events will give us access to TV shows, the Armenian music scene, and Armenia’s rich contemporary culture. We will meet with religious and government leaders, including His Holiness Karekin II Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians as well as the Minister of Diaspora, Hranoush Hakobyan.
