[FAR Scholarships]: Gulamerian Scholarship Helps Many Young Armenians Master Vocational Skills image

One of the goals of our Gulamerian Scholarship Program is to ensure that teenagers who grow up in orphanages are able to learn a trade or profession they can use once they transition out of these orphanages when they turn 18. Today, there are 117 teenagers and young people involved in the Gulamerian Scholarship Program, 80 of whom study cooking, cosmetology, carpentry, computer skills, etc.

[FAR Child Protection]: FAR Commemorates International Children’s Day Around Armenia standard

Celebrations in honor of International Children’s Day started at the FAR Children’s Center where the Ayo! team joined Center staff and the Circle of Friends supporters group for a chalk drawing competition. Afterwards the kids sang and danced, opened presents and ate ice cream and cake. At the end of the day kids participated in group fairytale therapy led by visiting child psychologist Rajni Avagyan, who used storytelling in an interactive way that enabled the children to touch upon the struggles they are facing and also learning about ways to cope. A Life Transformed by Support and Educational Opportunity standard

By Eduard Karapetyan Alexander Nefedov’s parents abandoned him at such a young age that Gavar Orphanage became his childhood home. Despite a difficult upbringing where he battled loneliness and often felt like an outsider, Alexander managed to maintain his kindness and foster his generous spirit. FAR’s educational programs team who frequently visited Gavar to work with older orphans also took notice of Alexander’snatural curiosity and love of expressing himself through painting early on in his teenage years. At 17, he was eventually awarded a scholarship for FAR’s Gulamerian Vocational Training and Education Program, which provided him tuition and a stipend to go to get his degree. [FAR Scholarships]: Gulamerian Scholar Lands New Job, Launching her Career standard

With her new hairdryer, scissors and combs Qristine Petrosyan, 18, is equipped with the tools she needs to start her new job at one of Yerevan’s salons. A FAR Gulamerian Scholarship recipient, Qristine was able to successfully complete a 4-month training course in hair styling in order to land her first job in her chosen profession. FAR also recently presented her the styling tools she needed as a gift. Qristine’s relationship with FAR goes back to her childhood when she would spend summers at the FAR Children’s Center. After her mother’s death, her father was unable to take care of Qristine and her sisters during their boarding school holidays so they were put into the care of the Center staff. ...

[FAR Scholarships]: Megerian Rugs Entertain the Children of Gavar Orphanage for a Day standard

On June 1st, children from Gavar Orphanage were welcomed at FAR’s Yerevan office. Some of the children were among the beneficiaries of FAR’s Gulamerian Scholarship Program. FAR staff members congratulated them on the joyous occasion of International Children’s Day, distributing presents FAR had prepared for them. Afterwards, the children visited Megerian Rugs*, where the company’s Production and Commercial Director Leonid Andreasyan, and Marketing Director Hayk Ayvazyan greeted them at the entrance. Leonid led the children on an interesting tour of the company’s facilities. He told them the history of the 96-year-old company. The children visited the rug weaving, rug repair and restoration manufacturing departments, all the while absorbing lessons about Armenian rug-weaving traditions. [FAR Partnerships]: A Gift that Keeps on Weaving standard

On February 15, Gavar Orphanage residents received a generous gift from the U.S.-based Megerian Rugs company. The company has once again donated 33 pounds of high-quality threads of wool and cotton for young carpet-weaving enthusiasts in response to FAR’s request to help replenish a carpet-weaving club’s stocks of colored threads. Mr. Raffi Megerian’s generous and benevolent attitude has become a new stimulus for the creative work of the children, who are exhilarated by the presents. Long-time weaving club member Aida Aslibabyan is very thankful for the new colored threads. [FAR Scholarships]: FAR Gulamerian Scholarship Program Recipient Successfully Defends his Final Project. standard

By Eduard Karapetyan.   Aleqsandr Nefedov is one of FAR’s Gulamerian Scholarship Program recipients. Just days ago he defended his final project at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts. Aleqsandr grew up in Gavar orphanage. Not only is he a great student, but he always lends a helping hand to FAR and has participated in several charitable activities. Aleqsandr helped to shape the children’s playrooms and a recreation center at the FAR Children’s Center. When drawing and pottery groups opened at the Gavar Orphanage and Special School #1, Aleqsandr supported FAR during our work with that project. He is always willing to help those who are in need.
