[FAR Scholarships]: Jerair Nishanian Scholars Continue to be Supported. standard

Fifty-three young Armenian scholars are able to continue their education through the Jerair Nishanian Foundation Scholarship program. FAR’s Educational Programs council recently evaluated the academic performance of these students, who are all in their second and fourth year of university. Also, FAR received about 32 applications from first-year students from Gavar University who wish to have their studies funded. Staff is now making home visits to interview the applicants and their families and further assess their financial needs. Through the Jerar Nishanian Scholarship Program students at Gavar State University, Yerevan State Engineering University, and Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction receive tuition coverage and monthly stipends to cover basic living costs, including transportation and school materials. [FAR Scholarships]: Nishanian Scholars Graduate Gavar State University. standard

For nearly nine years, the Jerair Nishanian Foundation has implemented the Jerair Nishanian Scholarship Program in Armenia through FAR. This program has given more than 50 socially vulnerable students from Gavar State University in the Gegharkunik region and Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction the opportunity to continue on to higher education. This year, 12 of the program’s 53 beneficiaries graduated from Gavar State University. One graduate student and seven undergraduate students earned degrees with honors, also known as “Red Diplomas.” Gavar State University Rector Ruzanna Hakobyan, Der Markos Bishop Hovhannisyan, Gegharkunik Diocese Primate, and other guests attended the ceremony. Second year students who wish to reapply for the Nishanian Foundation Scholarship can do so between July 1st and 13 th. FAR’s Educational Programs Coordinating Council will make their decisions on August 1. FAR will soon be accepting applications for the Jerair Nishanian Foundation Scholarship Program. Applications for first year students will be accepted between August 9 and August 19. Selection decisions will be made on September 7. Grade results for Gavar State University’s first semester of 2009-2010 are in and the majority earned excellent marks. Through the Jerair Nishanian Foundation Scholarship Program, FAR gives the gift of education to several students each year. Currently, 49 students study at Gavar State University with the help of the scholarship. [Jerair Nishanian Scholarship Program]: Jerair Nishanian Provides Christmas Gifts to Scholarship Recipients standard

For the last few years, the Jerair Nishanian Foundation has provided a few lucky students with the gift of an education.  Each year, through FAR, the foundation sponsors approximately fifty students who are working towards their degrees at Gavar State University.  Recently, FAR’s Edward Karapetyan and Levon Lachikyan visited Gavar to meet with some of the program’s beneficiaries. FAR Scholarships]: Reconduction for School Year 2009-2010 standard

FAR recently completed the review for the renewal of the “Jerair Nishanian Foundation” scholarships.  Of the 46 students previously participating in the program, 42 were able to renew their contracts. One of the 4 non-renewing students will be participating in an exchange program in Greece this year. Another of the four non-renewing students comes from a single parent household and has therefore been included in the state support program.  Unfortunately, the remaining two students have made insufficient academic progress. 30 applications were submitted to the FAR Yerevan Office in order to fill the four available spots.  After a review of the submitted applications, FAR Educational Programs Committee members made home visits to the finalists living in Gavar or in the ...

[FAR Scholarships]: Beneficiaries Stories, Mariam from Noratus. standard

Thanks to the support of Washington resident Jerair Nishanian, more than 40 children from socially vulnerable families have an opportunity to study at Gavar State University, which was established in 1993 to help educate youngsters around the Gavar and Gegharkunik regions. Mariam Margaryan, born in 1991 in village Noratus (famous for thousands of medieval khachkars), is one of the scholarship recipients. Mariam was 10 years old when both of her parents separately abandoned their family, leaving Mariam and her younger sister Mary in the care of their grandfather and grandmother.
