[FAR Schools]: Students Enjoy Special Holiday Celebrations image

It’s one of FAR’s traditions to visit the Nubarashen Special School on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the holidays with its students. This is thanks to good friends of ours, Michael and Marie Haratunian and their family, who have provided support to the school for the past three years. The Nubarashen school, which is located in Yerevan, serves children of varying disabilities starting from age 6.

A financial specialist, a university lecturer, an auditor, an assistant in Parliament, and a computer programmer were just a few of the people of diverse professions who gathered at FAR’s Yerevan office on February 19th to celebrate the 90th birthday of the woman who connects them — Anoush Mathevosian. It was indeed a heartwarming celebration for this dedicated Armenian benefactor and the founder of FAR’s Mathevosian Scholarship Program. [FAR Scholarships]: FAR Scholarship Students Join the Effort for Genocide Recognition standard

Millions across the world joined the quest for justice and recognition of the Armenian Genocide on April 24th. FAR’s scholarship students were no exception as they marched from Yerevan’s Sports and Entertainment Complex to the Genocide Memorial or Tsitsernakaberd to lay flowers around the eternal flame in memory of 1.5 million victims. More than 70 students supported by FAR’s Mathevosian, Gulamerian, Nishanian, Ajemian, Zambak, Berberian and Baghsarian scholarship programs, among others, joined the effort, which was led by FAR’s Education and Scientific Programs Coordinator Eduard Karapetyan.   All of us at FAR wish Anoush Mathevosian, founder of FAR’s Mathevosian Scholarship Program, a very happy birthday. Our entire team, along with all 94 Mathevosian-supported students, send our warmest congratulations and best wishes to this lovely woman. Ever since her first visit to Armenia in 1994 Anoush has worked with FAR to implement various programs. Since 1996, she has helped 273 young Armenians to fulfill their dream of going to school and furthering their careers through her scholarship program. Many of her projects were carried out in loving memory of her sister Siranoush. Satenik Hovhannisyan is a 3rd year student of Armenian Philology at Yerevan State University and a Mathevosian Scholarship recipient. For the past 13 years, she has also been a freestyle dancer. Alongside developing her linguistic career through perseverant studies, Satenik enjoys sharing her passion for dance in a benevolent and valuable initiative at FAR’s Children’s Support Center. She first proposed to organize dance classes for the children during a meeting with the Mathevosian Scholarship Program beneficiaries at FAR’s Yerevan office. Now, the classes take place twice a week – to the delight and happiness of the children. [FAR Yerevan]: A Sweet Surprise standard

October 16th happened to be “cake day” at FAR’s Yerevan office. FAR staff were caught unawares by a delicious treat and a special thank you message that were personally delivered to the office by a group of Mathevosian Scholarship Program beneficiaries. The group of graduate students had recently received BA degrees after completing four years of university studies with the support of the Program. “We are thankful for our education” was the short message written on the vignette of gratitude that they had designed themselves. The surprise visit caught the attention of all staff, who joined in the ceremony of tasting the impressive FAR-themed cake and celebrating the students’ academic success.

[FAR Scholarships]: Bound to Be Excellent standard

On September 1, FAR’s Yerevan office marked the beginning of the academic year in Armenia with an awards ceremony for the recipients of its 2012 scholarship programs. The beneficiaries received a warm welcome before they began signing the individual contracts based on which 50% of their annual tuition fees will be covered by the Mathevosian Scholarship Program and Avetis and the Arsho Baghsarian Scholarship Program. Many of the students had come to the office with their parents whose faces were lit up with joy as they received warm congratulations from Mr. Edik Karapetyan, FAR’s Science and Education Programs Manager. [FAR Scholarship Programs]: Mathevosian Scholarship Recipient Contributes to her Community standard

“There were lots of applicants for the scholarship but I happened to be the luckiest of them all,” says Marine Hoveyan, a former beneficiary of Mathevosian Scholarship Program who is now on her way up the career ladder. Marine was happy to have been hired as an ENT at the polyclinic adjacent to the medical center in her hometown of Ashtarak. FAR has announced this year’s recipients of the Mathevosian Scholarship Program. Educational program staff recently made home visits to applicants’ homes to conduct interviews before selecting the winners. Deputy Director Margarit Piliposyan congratulated these 13 happy students during a recent meeting, “It is a great honor to receive the Mathevosian Scholarship, as it is given only to the most brilliant students. Your first and most important responsibility is to study well and be successful in your study.
