[YPT]: FAR Helps Young Professionals Discover Their Own Armenia standard

Arto Vorperian, FAR’s Project Director, has been leading the FAR Young Professionals Trip (YPT) since its inception 19 years ago. This trip takes a small group of young people just on the verge of their professional careers through Armenia and the surrounding regions. The participants spend an incredibly busy 14 days visiting historic and geographic landmarks, discovering the concrete benefits of some of the FAR programs, and meeting with their Armenian young professional counterparts in the hopes of forging lasting relationships. In the two decades since the YPT began running, the local and diasporan Armenian communities have undergone monumental changes. [YPT]: A Journey of Discovery standard

This year marked the 18th year that enthusiastic young professionals discovered their homeland with FAR during the Young Professionals Trip (YPT) to Armenia 2013. The trip participants, including professionals from the fields of health, journalism, construction management, and music, spent two weeks in Armenia discovering its history, culture, and people. Under the guidance of FAR’s Project Director Arto Vorperian and tour guide, historian, and comedian extraordinaire Galust Hovsepyan, the YPs explored monumental historical sites, such as Garni, Ambert, Sardarabad, and the tomb of Mesrob Mashots. [CASP]: Summer Camp Hosts CASP Beneficiaries from Gyumri. standard

August was a highlight in the lives of 11 orphaned teenagers from Gyumri who are beneficiaries of the Children of Armenia Sponsorship Program (CASP).  Each of them was able to participate in the annual summer camp near Yeghegnadzor, which is sponsored by CASP and administered by FAR. This area is one of the richest in terms of the variety and the quality of sites and activities it offers. The beautiful monasteries of Noravank, Tsakhatskar, Tanahati, along with a number of smaller churches, are all within a half hour drive. [Hayastani Kidak Society]: Celine’s Dispatches – FAR’s Intern in Armenia – From Yerevan to the doors of the Orient. standard

Last Thursday, as I was sitting in Yerevan, everything around me started shaking. It took me a few seconds to realize that I was experiencing the second earthquake of my life. The epicenter was near Garni and according to seismologists, the magnitude of the quake reached 3.6. Needless to say, this light quake reminded everyone of the past. Within seconds, cell phone networks were saturated by numerous Armenians calling to check on their peers in different regions of the country. On Friday, the Young Professionals jammed their suitcases into the van and headed to southern Armenia.
