The school was all but destroyed during the 1988 earthquake and, until recently, students had to continue to carry out their lessons in temporary containers. [FAR Schools]: Octet Concert Series Ends 2015 on a High Note image

The talented students of Gyumri’s Octet Music School continue to perform throughout Armenia, with their most recent show held at the end of November at United World College (UWC) in Dilijan. The concert was part of a year-long series of performances dedicated to the centennial commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, which took Octet students to Gyumri, Echmiadzin, Charentsavan and Stepanavan, as well as Dsegh Village in Lori Province where the great Armenian poet and humanist Hovhannes Tumanyan was born. According to Ms. Cachoian-Schanz, “The staff is lovely” and “participants felt rewarded in their work and interactions with the elderly there.” The participants also joined the construction effort in Gyumri’s Octet Music ...

[FAR Schools]: Dozens of Instruments to Be Sent to Octet Music School standard

Canadian Tim Irving loves music. He also loves Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, which led him to support WhoCares – an initiative led by the lead singers of both of these groups to rebuild and refurbish the Octet Music School in Gyumri. The shipment of the dozens of instruments Irving collected is being carried out and covered by FAR. Gyumri will soon witness the opening of Octet’s brand-new school building, which is being constructed thanks to the concerted efforts of Mediamax, FAR and the Australian Do Something organization, which manages the WhoCares project.
